Forbidden city - Lion

The lion, the guardian of the forbidden city, was also a symbol of the power of the emperor.
To the left of the staircase (pictured) there is a lion cub under its paw : this a symbol of love (and so this lion is a female). To the right of the staircase, there is a globe under its paw : this is a symbol of power (and so this lion is a male).
