Summer palace - Shopping and artificial street called Suzhou street

During the Qing Dynasty, the role of merchants and customers were taken by eunuchs and servants of the court (and only during visits of the emperor or empress).
Note : the emperor had no right to mingle with people (by the way, this is why "his" city was forbidden...).
