Tian'anmen square - Gate of Heavenly peace

This gate leads to the Forbidden City. It is a symbol of Beijing.
A large portrait of Mao Zedong, the great helmsman, is hooked there.
The Chinese communist party, established in 1921 in Shanghai, opposes the government of Chiang Kai-shek until the invasion of Manchuria by the Japanese in 1931.
Then the two parties moved closer to oppose the Japanese invaders. After the defeat of the axis and the Japanese surrender in 1945 which led to the liberation of Manchuria, both sides resumed hostilities strongly to get the leadership of the country. Mao Zedong finally prevailed in 1949. Chiang Kai-shek fled to Taiwan island which became somehow the Republican China versus the Communist mainland.
