Baoding - Bas relief of the reclining Buddha

This is the position of Buddha entering Nirvana, i.e. having attained enlightenment and ending the cycle of reincarnation and suffering on earth.
Here, the sculpture is 31 m (34 yards) long and just over 5 m (5.5 yards)in height. Buddha is surrounded by his disciples. At the top, in the middle, we can enumerate nine deities welcoming the souls entering Nirvana.
