Maglev

Maglev

Maglev (Magnetic Levitation) is the name of a Japanese magnetic sustension train project.
BUT here, the German Transrapid linking Shanghai airport to city center (30 km / 18.5 miles) is also known as Maglev.
This section was opened in 2004 and is thus the first use of a magnetic sustension train.
It reaches a speed of 400 km/h (250 miles per hour) during the day and 330 km/h (185 miles per hour) early in the morning and after 5p.m.
Note that the operating cost remains high.
