Xi'an was the capital of the Qin Dynasty (221-210 B.C.), the Han dynasty (202 B.C.-220 A.D.), then known as Chang'an, and the Tang dynasty (618-907). Under the last dynasty, it is one of the greatest cities in the world. Xi'an was the starting point of the Silk Road.
