Insa-dong street - Chondogyo church
Chondogyo is a Korean syncretic religious movement of the 19th century which has its roots in shamanism, Taoism, Buddhism and Christianity.
It supports the nation and seeks the comfort of the people by freeing them from their suffering.
Its leaders were involved in resisting the Japanese occupation in the early 19th (one of them has a statue in Tapgol park).
The objective is the establishment of a paradise on earth. In this sense, the fundamental doctrine of Chondogyo is that the human being and God are one (God is present
in every person, not outside). It is a religion of "cosmos" which has its own symbol and emblem.
It would be followed by 12% in North Korea and about 2.3% in South Korea.
