Sunggasa temple (Bukhansan) - Buddha Tejaprabha

This is the Buddha of Blazing Light. He is associated with planets, stars and constellations. In Korea, by syncretism, he often comes along with Chilseong, the spirit of the seven stars of the constellation of the Big Dipper in Korean shamanism. The Buddha holds a wheel of law. At his side, there are the Bodhisattvas of sun and moon. Nearby, we easily notice seven characters larger than the other and with caps. These figures represent the seven stars of the Big Dipper, and so together they represent Chilseong. At the top, we can still see seven Buddhas and another figure of shamanism, with a prominence on his head : Taesangnogun.
