Waujeongsa temple - Scene from Buddha's life #5

Waujeongsa temple - Scene from Buddha's life #5

After six years of "initiatory wandering" (from 29 to 35 years old) and a long period of fasting in northern India, Siddhartha spent 49 days meditating under a fig tree sitting in the lotus position (in Bodhgaya).
One can also mention another episode that occurred during his meditation : he had the opportunity to observe a musician playing a stringed instrument. He noted that if the rope was too lax, there was no sound, and conversely, if the rope was too tight, it snapped. He concluded that we must choose the "middle path" (which leads to harmony).
