City arms

The Latin inscription "Domine dirige nos" that can be translated as "God, guide us" is the motto of the City. The griffins (represented as dragons) surround a shield with the arms of England : the cross of St. George. The sword is an attribute of St. Paul, the patron saint of London, in reference to his martyrdom.
