Belfast - Catholic mural

This painting commemorates the Easter rising in 1916 in Dublin, "bloody Easter", a first step to the independence of Eire (Southern Ireland) in 1922. All insurgent leaders were shot by the British except one American citizen (from Irish descent), De Valera, who later became president of the Irish Republic. The independence fighters of Northern Ireland wish to be associated with Eire.
