Sainte Chapelle - Tomb of the Duke of Enghien
The Duke of Enghien (Prince of Condé and Prince of the Blood) was accused of plotting against Napoleon and executed in the moat of Vincennes after a expeditious trial on March 21, 1804.
This execution helped Napoleon (relentless against royalists) to be accepted as Emperor by Republicans.
On his tomb, The Duke of Enghien is represented with an allegorical figure representing fortitude.
Two other allegorical figures are shown below : crime, with the dagger, and France in tears.
