The writer Honoré de Balzac was born in Tours on 20 May 1799 and died in Paris on 18 August 1850. He is the author of the "Comédie humaine" (Human Comedy), a series of 137 books, which is as a kind of social studies (as he himself first wanted to call the series) of his time. The characters reappear from one story to another. Here are some of his best known works : Les Chouans, La Peau de chagrin, Eugenie Grandet, le Père Goriot, le Colonel Chabert, le Lys dans la vallée...
