Forbidden city - Meridian gate (wumen)

The glazed tiles are yellow (like all other buildings in the city), the symbol of the emperor.
Purple meant it was a cosmic center (the emperor was considered to be the son of Heaven ). So the forbidden city was also called the "purple city".
The main entrance was restricted to the emperor.
