British museum - Rosetta Stone

The Rosetta Stone was discovered by a soldier during the Napoleonic campaign of Egypt. It contains the same text reproduced with three different scripts : greek, demotic (simplified hieroglyphs) and hieroglyphic, which allowed the Frenchman Champollion to decipher the hieroglyphs in 1822.
