Durham
Cathedral
The Roman cathedral has a Norman structure from the 11th-13th century.
Pictures are forbidden inside. Too bad because the cathedral is full of surprises :
- pattern of columns
- 9 altars chapel
- Galilee chapel
- jube
- pulpit and baptismal font
- astronomical clock
Castle
We can get a nice view over the castle (closed the day of my visit) from the top of the tower of the cathedral.
Historic Center
The historic center of Durham is located on a peninsula, and we can get a nice view from the banks.
In the vicinity
30 km (18.5 miles) north by the A1 highway towards Gateshead, we come across a gigantic metal structure of the "angel of the north".
